The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced, covering the entire state of Goa and extending into additional parts of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and several regions of the Bay of Bengal as of June 6, 2026.
According to the IMD, the monsoon has now enveloped the whole of Goa, most parts of Tamil Nadu, and the southwest Bay of Bengal. It has also progressed into additional areas of the west-central, northeast, east-central, and northwest Bay of Bengal.

In the northeastern region, the monsoon has further advanced into parts of Mizoram and Manipur, signalling continued seasonal progression across the country.
The latest advancement is expected to bring increased rainfall activity to the newly covered regions, providing relief from prevailing heat conditions and supporting agricultural activities as the monsoon season gains momentum.
