PANJIM: St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes criticised political rivals for trying to interfere in the rehabilitation of kiosk owners, who operate outside Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim and assured that the work will be completed soon.
Fernandes said a work order of Rs 10 crore had been issued and all administrative processes including financial and cabinet approval had been completed. He said a new compound wall is being built following which the kiosks will be rehabilitated and that the delay was due to government officials being on leave during Diwali.

Fernandes was speaking to media persons after kiosk owners held a protest outside his residence on Wednesday. The kiosk owners have vowed to go on an indefinite hunger strike from next Monday if the work doesn’t begin by the end of this week. They pointed out that they were earlier given the assurances that work regarding their rehabilitation would begin by November 10 and thus had protested on Wednesday. They added that 90% of them belong to the ST/SC community and questioned why the authorities are making them go through such hardships. They also denied that their protests were linked for any political related interest but that it was about their livelihoods, which are at stake.
