MARGAO, JAN 17
Demanding suspension of the policemen involved in Cipriano custodial death case within a week’s time, the United Goans Democratic Party has threatened to bring the people of Goa on the streets if the erring policemen are not suspended immediately pending an inquiry.
Party secretary general Adv Anacleto Viegas also questioned the propriety of the government in instituting a police probe into the episode when custodial deaths are to be inquired by the magistrates. “The UGDP is demanding the immediate suspension of the policemen who accompanied Cipriano in the jeep. There cannot be any justification for the police to bring Cipriano when the complaint was non-cognisable”, Adv Viegas said.
He demanded that the government scrap the probe ordered into the death case.
