PANJIM: The unresolved problems with availability of halls to stage their tiatrs have continued to upset the tiatr community.

More tiatrists have come forward to express their dismay with the present state of affairs where there are issues with most of the halls in the State and they are unable to get bookings in December at the famous Pai Tiatrist Hall at Ravindra Bhavan Margao (RBM).
Some fans have asked RBM to reduce the fees for staging tiatrs at the Pai Tiatrist hall given how the tiatrs generate so much revenue for RBM and in view of the financial losses the tiatr directors faced since the pandemic.
Tiatrist Hortencio Pereira criticised the step motherly treatment from the government and the manner in which the curtains are being brought down on all the halls of Konkani Tiatrs which he said is the main Konkani entertainment for Goans.
Tiatr director Irineu Gonsalves said, “Is tiatrist fraternity the last priority of the State? With the government attitude it’s becoming increasingly difficult to imagine the tiatr fraternity returning to normalcy anytime soon. Tiatrists’ plight is Goa’s plight. If they are suffering, the pain is felt by the people. As people of Goa know it’s the artistes (tiatrists, backstage artists, musicians etc) that preserve Goan culture. Tiatrists are Goa’s cultural ambassadors. Nobody has a direct link to the people as much as artistes do. Culture and entertainment are part of Goan life which enriches our social ethos.”
