Among those present were Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who currently represents Wayanad in Parliament.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the 61-year-old Chief Minister greeted several Congress chief ministers and party leaders who had arrived to attend the event. Outgoing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar were also present on the stage, with Satheesan seen shaking hands with leaders across party lines.

VD Satheesan is widely credited with leading the Congress comeback in Kerala after the Left Democratic Front (LDF), headed by Pinarayi Vijayan, secured two consecutive terms in power — an unprecedented achievement in the state’s political history.

Although Satheesan was viewed by many within the party as the natural choice for the top post, reports suggested that the Congress central leadership had also considered KC Venugopal, the party’s General Secretary (Organisation), for the chief ministership. Venugopal has long been associated with national-level Congress politics in New Delhi.
