Vijai Sardesai Raises Alarm Over Sale of Communidade Land, Questions Government’s Inaction

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Thursday raised serious concerns in the Assembly over the alleged sale of Communidade land, originally granted for the purpose of generating local employment. He claimed that instead of being used for its intended purpose, the land is now being sold off in plots.

Sardesai questioned the government’s silence on the matter, asking, “Will the government take action against this misuse?”

In response, Town and Country Planning Minister Babush Monserrate clarified that the land in question belongs to Zuari and not the government. “Since the land is owned by Zuari, the government cannot intervene,” Monserrate stated.

The exchange has reignited the debate over Communidade land use and the need for stricter safeguards to prevent commercial misuse of land meant for public benefit.
