PANJIM: Surla-Sattari villagers demanding revocation of licenves of over half a dozen bars failed to get relief from the Excise Department as the matter is currently being heard.
During their meeting with Excise Commissioner Amit Sathija, the villagers were informed that since the reply by the owners of eight liquor outlets on the show cause notices are currently being heard by the department, a decision cannot be arrived at prematurely.
In September, Surla panchayat had revoked the NOCs of the liquor outlets followed by a show cause notice issued by the Excise Department. In October, the bar owners had moved the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking a stay on the panchayat decision after which the court directed Directorate of Panchayats to decide on the appeal within six weeks. The villagers then filed an intervention application before the panchayat department, hearing of which is underway.
