Wholesale liquor dealers protests hit tourism trade

Protests by wholesale liquor dealers by keeping their shutters down have severely affected the tourism trade at Palolem and Agonda beaches, besides other parts of Canacoa taluka.
Residents celebrating Easter were also made to run from pillar to post to procure alcoholic beverages to serve their visitors.
Excise officials informed that two liquor factories operating in the taluka are already closed, but one wholesale IMFL shop reportedly operating in Canacona town has not submitted any accounts as required to the excise office.
It is learnt that the matter has been reported to the higher-ups and suitable action is expected in a day or two against the wholesale shop.
Sources informed that as all other wholesale liquor shops in the taluka have been closed since the last four days, on grounds that they find it difficult to submit sale stock records at the end of the day (as per election commission requirements), only one wholesale outlet is carrying on the business.
