Youth killed in Cumbharjua mishap

PONDA: A 20-year-old youth from Cumbharjua died after he was knocked down by a car at Cumbharjua on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Car driver Akshay Bhonsle, who had fled from the site of accident, surrendered to Ponda Police on Sunday morning.

According to police, the accident occurred when Satesh Ramesh Naik was walking towards the Cumbharjua Bridge. Satesh, who had sustained grievous head injuries, was shifted to GMC Hospital in Bambolim, where doctors declared brought in dead.

Police arrested car driver Bhonsle and registered the offence under Sections 279, 304-A of IPC and Sections 134 A and B of MV Act. Bhonsle was later released on bail. Police handed over the body to the family for performing final rites.
