That Goa is not a safe place is an oft-repeated statement. But the danger lies on the roads, and not with predators, murderers, terrorists. Goa is unsafe because the people make it unsafe. The roads are unsafe because the people drive recklessly. These problems are further accentuated because when accidents happen adequate measures are not taken and Goa is not proactive in managing accidents. To get insights in the issue, Sujay Gupta spoke to Dr Jorson Fernandes, Chairman of St John’s Ambulance Association of Goa, which trains and inculcates good habits as far as emergency services and other emergency protocols are concerned; Moses Pinto an established author of a book called ‘Practice Traffic Yoga’ and an online safety campaigner; Prabhakar Timble, a member of MARG, which is the Movement for Amity Towards Roads in Goa, an organization which has been doing yeoman service in these issues.
