RAIA: Anselm Fernandes’ brace helped Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim, edged past Cuncolim Union 2-1 to move in the quarter-finals of Varca Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Varca Sports Club at Varca ground, on Sunday.
Wilred Leisure Sports Club were leading 2-1 at half time. Novian Belki scored in the 6th minute for Cuncolim Union. Soon Wilred Leisure SC played an attacking game and equalised in the 7th minute through the efforts of Anselm.
Wilred Leisure SC doubled the lead in the 11th minute with a neat placement from Anselm giving no chance for Cuncolim Union goalkeeper Sachin Velip and complete his brace.
Cuncolim Union tried hard to find the equaliser but all their efforts went in vain as Wilred Leisure Sports Club goalkeeper Johnson Bogato was too strong under the goal post.
