Dempo, Govt. College Quepem bag top honours

MAPUSA: Tournament favourite’s SS Dempo College, Altinho and Government College, Quepem won the men and women finals respectively to clinch the Dempo College Golden Jubilee Cup, at Duler stadium, here, recently.

In the men’s final, Dempo College edged past St Xavier’s College, Mapusa 5-4 via the tie-breaker.
The girls of Govt. College, Quepem emerged victorious after a 4-3 win via penalties over St Xavier’s College, Mapusa.
Desiree Pereira of St Xavier’s College was adjudged Most promising player and in the men finals, Banneh Hussain of St Xavier’s College, Mapusa was adjudged Most promising player. Whereas, in the women finals, Michelle Casthana of Govt. College, Quepem was announced the Best player and in the men’s finals, Gautam Dias of SS Dempo was announced as the Best player.
The men’s winning team walked away with a prize of Rs 15,000 while the runners-up took home Rs 10,000.
In the women’s event, the winning team of Govt College, Quepem were awarded Rs 10,000 while St Xavier’s College took home the runners-up trophy and Rs 8,000.
Earlier, the first men semi-finals were played between DMC, Assagao and SS Dempo, Altinho where in Dempo College won via penalties to make it into the finals.
In the second semi-finals, St Xavier’s College got the better of Saraswat Caculo College via the penalty shoot-out after the teams could not break the deadlock at regulation time.
In the women’s semi-finals, Govt. College, Quepem edged past Fr Agnel College, Pilar 1-0 while St Xavier’s College, Mapusa won via penalties 4-3. 
A total of 16 men teams and eight women teams contested for the trophy over a period of three days.
Also present for the finals were chief guest IGP Sunil Garg, President of Goa Football Association Elvis Gomes, Principal of Dempo College of Commerce and Economics Dr Radhika Nayak, vice-principal, Harip Khanapuri and other dignitaries. 
FC Goa players Romeo Fernandes, Mandar Rao Dessai and Keenan Almeida were also present.
