Kerala government to honour Sanju Samson
After the title triumph, the Kerala government announced that Samson would be felicitated for his contributions to India’s success. General Education and Labour Minister V Sivankutty confirmed the news on Monday, stating that the ceremony would be organised in the state capital.
The date of the event has not been finalised yet, but the reception is expected to celebrate Samson’s outstanding performances during the tournament.
Samson’s dominance
Samson scored 321 runs in just five matches, averaging 80 while maintaining a stunning strike rate of 199. His aggressive batting included 24 sixes and 27 boundaries, making him one of the most dangerous batters of the competition.
Despite being dropped briefly during the tournament, Samson bounced back strongly and proved his importance to the team with crucial knocks.
In the final, Abhishek Sharma played a blistering cameo, smashing a half-century in just 18 balls. Ishan Kishan also contributed with a rapid 54 off 25 deliveries, helping India reach 255 in 20 overs.
New Zealand never recovered during the chase as Jasprit Bumrah produced a brilliant spell of 4 for 15. Axar Patel supported him well with three wickets, restricting the Kiwis to 159 and sealing a famous win for India.
