A total of 105 schools have defaulted in repaying the installments of the loan provided by the government for the up gradation of infrastructure.
Replying to a question tabled by Poinguinim MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, Education Minister Babush Monseratte said that total of 174 schools availed the benefit of the loan scheme for up gradation of infrastructure.
“The government has sanctioned a total of 40.31 crores out of which 32.5 cores was disbursed between 2003 and 2006,” he said adding the remaining was not disbursed to lack of funds with GSIDC.
Monseratte said that out of 174, only 69 schools were regularly paying installments. According to the minister as of now Rs 3.02 cr has been recovered.
“Necessary action has been initiated against the defaulting schools to recover the amount with penal interest,” he said adding, “so far Rs 54.01 lakh have been recovered from the schools, who had defaulted.”
