4 injured in car-truck collision at Canacona

Four youth were seriously injured when the car in which they were traveling collided against a truck at Khalwade-Canacona late Monday evening.
According to Canacona police, Kalandhar (24), Anish (26), Haniff (24) and Shanawan (24) of Xeller in Canacona taluka sustained injuries. The accident occurred when the four youth, who were proceeding in their Swift car (GA-08-E-9016) towards Bhatpal, was hit by an oncoming truck (GA-01 W-7804) at Khalwade.
Police informed that Haniff and Shanawan were shifted to Hospicio Margao in serious condition.
Meanwhile, rains lashed intermittently in different pockets throughout the day on Monday. The fire service personnel attended as many as four calls of trees uprooting in different parts of the taluka.
Sources informed that few two-wheeler skidding incidents took place along the highway, which however went unreported at the police station.
Fire station sources informed that a mango tree came crashing down on Shri Krishna Davasthan at Loliem, causing loss of over Rs 50,000.
The fire personnel rushed to clear a huge tree that came down on the highway at Partagali, blocking the road, early Monday morning.
In the afternoon, a tree came down on a toilet tank of Government Primary School at Ponsulem-Canacona, which was later attended by fire service personnel.
In the afternoon while the rains lashed the taluka heavily, a tree came crashing down on electricity alignment at Palolem, plunging most parts of Palolem and adjoining areas in darkness.
Fire service personnel also cleared the road blocked by this tree, while electricity personnel worked till late in the night to restore the electricity alignment and power supply.
