PONDA: Threatening to block the National Highway at Curti over the dangerous roadside parking of trucks, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) workers on Thursday served an eight-day ultimatum on the traffic police to clear the trucks.
Addressing media persons, MGP Ponda Block leader Dr Ketan Bhatikar along with party workers threatened to block the NH at Curti to protest the failure of traffic police to clear the hundreds of truck parked on the roadside.
Bhatikar also submitted a memorandum to Ponda Deputy Collector Kedar Naik to clear the trucks parked dangerously along the NH to ensure that the MGP workers and locals are not forced to take law in their hands.
Bhatikar said truck parking has a become nuisance to the general public. The drivers are defecating out in the open along the roadside and these dangerously parked trucks are an open invitation to accidents. He said the issue was discussed earlier with Traffic PI Praveen Gawas.
“We are giving a week’s time to clear the trucks parked on the NH. Even after the deadline if the parking of trucks continues then we will sit on a dharna and block the highway at Curti and also on the Ponda side”, he warned.
He demanded that a lady swimming coach be appointed for training girls.
He said the Ponda Sub District Hospital lacks emergency services and patients are forced to rush to the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.
Stating that patients are also not getting timely treatment, he cited a case wherein he was forced to shift the patient to GMC while in another a patient with a fracture, who visited the hospital in morning, had to wait for his treatment as the doctor arrived in the evening.
