To condemn alleged gross misuse of the CBI by the UPA government to harass its Opposition leaders, the BJP on May 12 will stage nation-wide protests. BJP workers will stage protests outside CBI offices in the State capitals.
The National President of BJP, Nitin Gadkari who is on a two-day visit of Goa while addressing a press conference on Thursday here, said BJP strongly condemns the gross misuse of the CBI in the last six years by the Congress-led government and would protest outside CBI offices in various State capitals.
Terming CBI as Congress Bureau of Investigation, Gadkari charged that in the last six years, Congress has used CBI against its political opponents particularly those belonging to BJP, SP and RJD and harassed opposition leaders who were not vulnerable to government pressure.
He listed names such as Ajit Jogi, who he charged was systematically finished by misusing the CBI whereas in the Bofors case, the complete failure to bring the Italian Quattrochi to face the Indian courts was accomplished by misusing the CBI.
On the other hand, Congress has helped its own people to get out of the rut such as Sajjan Kumar. A Delhi Court has criticised CBI for its failure to arrest and produce former Congress MP. The CBI was also criticised by the Supreme Court for acting at the behest of the Centre in trying to clear Jagadish Tytler from the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
Alleging that opposition leaders not vulnerable to government pressure are harassed, Gadkari said this is more evident in Gujarat.
While cases of fake encounter killing of dreaded criminals by police are registered all over the country, the UPA government has taken extra ordinary interest to entrust the case of the encounter killing in Gujarat to the CBI even after the Gujarat Police filed charge sheets against several senior police officers.
There are several cases pending against Sohrabuddin, who was accused of spreading terror and was arrested and remanded to police custody in 1995 and there are several cases pending against him in different States, and was also linked with Dawood Ibrahim, yet UPA government acting in tandem, being pressurised by NGOs and activists, took the case of an anti-national and a criminal like Sohrabuddin, he charged.
He also alleged that CBI is being misused to suppress and defame the chief minister of Gujarat and the State is being punished for electing BJP successively in every election.
Our Vasco Reporter adds: State BJP workers accorded a warm welcome to BJP President Nitin Gadkari on his maiden visit to the State on Thursday morning.
Gadkari, who arrived in a special aircraft, was welcomed by State President Laxmikant Parsekar, Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar, Fatorda MLA Damu Naik, Mormugao MLA Milind Naik, BJP Secretary Narendra Saviokar, former MLA Rajendra Arlekar, Avinash Koli, former Mormugao Municipal Council chairman Deepak Naik, Councilor Daji Salkar, Jayant Jadhav and BJP workers.
The BJP workers welcomed Gadkari in a traditional manner with an aarti and garlanding him, while BJP youth workers played the traditional music.
Gadkari convoy was halted near Shantadurga Temple at Sancoale, where Cortalim constituency workers welcomed him by offering him a garland.
Huge posters of Gadkari were seen from the airport junction at prime locations along NH-17A.
