According to the Association’s president, the condition of the liquor vendors had worsened due to policy changes by government.
At a meeting on Thursday, the liquor vendors deliberated on various points that they would bring to the notice of the government.
“The timing of business stipulated by the government to liquor vendors is 8 am to 9 pm. This time is not convenient for business. Hence, we request the government to allow us to function from 9.30 am to 10.30 pm,” said a member of the association, adding, “The increase in government’s licence fees is an increased financial burden on the vendors. The renewal of the various licences is also costing us small liquor vendors dearly.”
The GLVA also objected to the food and adulteration licence fee as they claimed the manufacturers had already paid it for the produced liquor. It also requested the government to issue new licences to super markets and shopping malls.
