PERNEM: Around 25-meter stretch of a newly constructed retaining wall and road near Railway Bridge at Porascadem has collapsed into River Tiracol. The height of the collapsed wall was around 6.5 meters. The road was not opened for traffic since its construction.
The collapse of the wall and the road has created doubts in the minds of the people living in the locality as to the quality of the construction of the road at that stretch in particular and the entire highway widening in general.
Incidentally, the ongoing work of highway between Patradevi and Dhargal was inspected last month by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar the officials of the construction company.
A daily commuter Ravi Naik said, “If road collapses even before it is put to use, then, what will happen when the highway is opened for traffic. Heavy vehicles ply on this road day and night; if the road collapses after it is open for traffic, lives will be lost.”
