MAPUSA: The Mapusa police have arrested a 28-year-old from Khorlim, Mapusa for the theft of scooters and car Stepneys and recovered three vehicles along with two stepneys from his possession. The recovered vehicles and stepneys are valued at Rs 90,000.
The Investigating Officer said that on Tuesday Allan Fernandes, a resident of Karaswada, Mapusa filed a complaint that his motorcycle and car stepney parked in an open area was missing since May 8.
He suspected that Ketan Melad, who was working for him was involved in stealing the same. Based on the information, the police immediately swung into the action and nabbed the accused who is identified. He was held at his resident and placed under arrest late night on Wednesday.
During the course of the investigation the accused has confessed that he stole scooters and informed the police the whereabouts of the stolen vehicles.
The accused used to sell the vehicle after removing the number plates. The Mapusa police have registered the case against the accused and he is remanded in judicial custody for 14 days at Colvale.
