The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) conducted a joint inspection at the entrance of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, on June 16, beginning at 10:30 a.m., to assess road safety and pedestrian infrastructure in the area.
The inspection focused on the service roads and bus stops opposite the GMC campus, where committee members identified several issues affecting public safety and traffic management. Among the concerns highlighted were illegal stalls encroaching on footpaths, unauthorized parking along service roads, and unsafe electrical installations on poles located adjacent to pedestrian pathways.

A major safety concern raised during the inspection was the presence of exposed and allegedly illegally tapped electrical wiring connected to the main power line. The committee observed that these hazardous connections pose a significant risk to pedestrians, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season when the likelihood of electrical accidents increases.
During the on-site review, DRSC members discussed the need for immediate corrective measures, including the removal of encroachments, regulation of unauthorized parking and rectification of unsafe electrical connections to ensure compliance with road safety standards and enhance pedestrian safety around one of the state’s busiest healthcare facilities.
