MARGAO: The pending work of the Navelim-Sinquetim bridge will resume with the police protection, as a meeting with regard to the course of action was held on Tuesday, at South Goa Collectorate office, Margao.
Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao, South Goa Collector Ruchika Katyal, besides the concerned contractor, officials of the police department and Public Works Department attended the meeting, and it has been decided to go ahead with the pending work with police protection.
As informed by the MLA, the Collector has directed the officials to go ahead with the pending work with police protection, if any objections.
It may be recalled that a group of people led by former minister and Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado had expressed opposition to the bridge. On the other hand, people from Benaulim are strongly demanding to complete the pending work of the bridge at the earliest. The government has already given the green signal to go ahead with the pending work.
Recently, locals of Sinquetim and Benaulim have strongly opposed the under-construction bridge at Sinquetim, Navelim alleging that the construction work is underway without acquiring the land. People from Navelim have stated that they will not allow the government to continue the construction work at any cost.
Earlier, former legislator Avertano Furtado, besides former Benaulim MLA Caitu D’Silva and other local leaders also attended and expressed their objections to the bridge.
