MARGAO: Goa Government Employees Association intensified their fortnight long agitation demanding the transfer of South District Collector N D Agrawal by taking to the streets of Margao on Saturday.
For the first time since the South Goa Collectorate employees began the agitation a fortnight ago, agitated employees, armed with banners and placards, took to the streets on Saturday morning by taking out a morcha in the old market area of the city. They shouted slogans against the District Collector and vowed not to rest till their demand for Agrawal’s immediate transfer is not met by the government.
Government employees from South Goa district joined their District Collectorate counterparts as a show of solidarity with the agitating employees.
President of Goa Government Employees Association M L Shetkar told the media outside the District Collectorate building that the employees have decided to further intensify the ongoing agitation from next week to draw government attention. “If the government fails to meet our demand, we will intensify our agitation by taking the issue at the taluka level. We will go to various talukas. Let the people of Goa know our demands,” Shetkar said, adding “though we had put up the demand that Agrawal’s service extension should be withdrawn immediately, we want the government to transfer him immediately for meting out harassment to the Collectorate staff and employees.”
