Aires writes to HC seeking transfer of Shanu case to CBI

PANJIM: A letter petition has been filed in the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking the transfer of the investigation of alleged murder of Saleli resident Shanu Gaonkar to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The letter petition, filed by social activist Aires Rodrigues, points out that despite clinching evidence having surfaced, there is apprehension that on directives of senior politicians the investigation may intentionally be derailed by Goa Police.
In his petition Rodrigues alleged that there were efforts to shield Vishwajit K Rane who was the BJP’s candidate in Poriem constituency at the recently held Assembly elections.
A copy of the letter petition has been sent to the Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar and Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Dr Manjula Chellur.
The petition has sought that the Court, suo-motu and in public interest, examine the records and thereafter transfer the investigation of the Gaonkar case to the CBI.
Meanwhile, the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) on Tuesday adjourned the hearing to March 15 of the complaint filed by Rodrigues seeking a thorough probe into the disappearance of Gaonkar.
