MARGAO: Director General of Shipping will reactivate the deactivated INDoS (Indian National Database of Seafarers) on February 1.
AAP Goa Seafarers cell has welcomed the decision.
The INDoS (emigrate clearance) was deactivated for a period of one year of those seafarers who had obtained training certificates without attending the courses.
Many seafarers have also re-done the courses and submitted the certificates to the Maritime Administration as per procedure.
The Directorate General of Shipping will re-open the deactivated INDoS on February 1 of all those seafarers who have done courses again and submitted their certificates to the office of the Directorate General of Shipping. Various associations working for the seafarers have thanked Union Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Director General of Shipping Amitabh Kumar for having enabled the seafarers to continue their employment on board both the Indian and foreign flagged ships.
Welcoming the decision, AAP said that it would help 3762 seafarers whose INDoS is blocked.
“Although not being in power, AAP Goa Seafarers Team has always highlighted as well worked for the betterment of the seafarer community. We appreciate the work of the DG Shipping and Shipping Ministry for their steps towards this news and we the Indian Seafarers are now waiting for our long demand of abolish total tax for seafarers’ earnings,” AAP leader and AAP Seafarers Goa Unit in-charge Captain Venzy Viegas said.
