Canacona, Goa: Continuing their crackdown on drug-related offences, Canacona Police conducted an operation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested a 32-year-old waiter after allegedly seizing 26.9 grams of charas from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Sidhlingeshwar Malleshappa Basgi, a native of Bagalkot district in Karnataka, who was employed as a waiter at Mickky’s Restaurant at Patnem Beach.
According to police, the accused was apprehended during a targeted anti-narcotics raid, during which officers allegedly recovered 26.9 grams of charas. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and whether the accused had links to a wider drug network.
Police officials stated that the operation forms part of their sustained campaign against narcotics in the coastal belt. Notably, this is the eighth narcotics raid conducted since Senior Police Inspector Pravin Gawas assumed charge of Canacona Police Station, underscoring the department’s intensified efforts to curb drug-related activities in the region.
The accused has been taken into custody, and further legal proceedings are in progress.
