Candolim PHC holds second cleanliness drive

PANJIM: In a bid to maintain its record of having reduced malaria and other vector borne diseases, the Primary Health Centre, Candolim in collaboration with the Village Health & Sanitation Committee of Candolim had their second cleanliness drive to eradicate the breeding of mosquitoes and clear the ward of garbage in Aradi, Candolim recently.
The Health Officer, Dr Maria Margaret Sequeira along with the Sarpanch of Candolim. Sandra Fialho, who is also the panch member of Aradi, flagged of the drive.
Each part of the ward had had a team of local leaders who along with anti-larval teams went around bringing to the notice of the people residing, the unhygienic conditions created by them and the corrective measures to be undertaken.
“A total of 186 houses were examined, 97 overhead tanks were observed wherein the owners were told to cover the outlets/vent pipes with mosquito proof nets. 97 tyres, 256 bottles, 286 drums and 315 other potential breeding sites were found of which only 7 of the above were found to be breeding mosquitoes,” the Candolim Health Centre said in a statement.
The programme was supervised by the Sanitary Inspector, Sachit Pol and coordinated by the Multipurpose Health Worker for Candolim, Sarvesh Naik.
The residents were later treated to a PowerPoint presentation which consisted of slides of their own village and educated on how to treat it well.
Daisy Vidwans, Extension Educator and Dr Roshan Nazareth, Medical Officer, PHC Candolim also organised a Behaviour Communication change programme.
