CANACONA: Canacona Health Welfare Committee (CHWC) has urged local bodies including Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) to pass resolutions demanding a full-fledged hospital with a trauma unit in the taluka.
The move follows Canacona MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar’s announcement of the government’s plans to upgrade the Community Health Centre (CHC) Chaudi to a sub-district hospital.
In a press note, CHWC stated that it has requested all panchayats and the CMC to adopt resolutions to demand up-gradation of Community Health Centre at Chaudi to a full-fledged hospital with a trauma unit to submit it to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for further redressal.
“As status of Canacona Health Centre has remained unchanged even after completion of one year of new guard in power, the demands of the people despite assurances have not been met and it still has insufficient equipments, manpower and lack of most doctors at CHC,” stated CHWC President Diogo D’Silva.
Recently, another group, ‘Ami Canconkars’ has taken up the issue of deteriorating health facilities at CHC and has given an ultimatum up to March 18 to improve the status of CHC Canacona or face agitations.
