PERNEM: The Pernem Block Congress Committee on Thursday strongly opposed the holding of Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) event at Dhargalim and expressed their support to Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar, who too has opposed the festival.

Pernem Congress Block member Jitendra Gaonkar and Bhaskar Narulkar warned that if the government fails to scrap the proposed three-day event at Dhargalim then they will take to streets and protest against it.
The Sunburn EDM is likely to be held at the ‘Deltin Town’ land at Dhargalim from December 28 to 30 this year.
Reacting to the Pernem MLA’s statement that the festival could be held in the coastal Mandrem, the Congress leaders declared they will not allow to organise the Sunburn EDM anywhere in the Pernem taluka.
“We don’t want such festival which is used to sell drugs and other vices. In the past, there were incidents of deaths due to overdose of drugs. We will not allow to destroy our culture in Pernem taluka,” they said.
They pointed out that the Pernem MLA had already opposed the Sunburn EDM and the opposition to the festival will be irrespective of party affiliation and nobody will take political mileage.
“We don’t want to politicise the issue. We welcome Pernem MLA’s statement and hope that he will lead the villagers in opposing the Sunburn in Dhargalim,” Narulkar said.
