PANJIM: A day after Torda resident Vilas Mhetar was set ablaze by unidentified men, his fellow residents of the building at Donwaddo – Salvador Do Mundo have approached the North Goa Superintendent of Police Utkrisht Prasoon seeking protection to the housing society.

In the letter, dated October 15, the residents had suspected role of ‘the builder’ behind the gruesome crime on Methar while also raising apprehension on their security. “We request that no one be removed from the list of suspects in this case. Our first suspicion behind this incident goes to the builder where the builder was and still is directly or indirectly involved with many illegal construction works and unjust transfer of common spaces supposed to be used by all in the society,” reads the complaint, the copy of which is in exclusive possession of Herald.
On October 15, Methar succumbed to serious burn injuries a day after he was burnt alive by two unidentified persons. Three days after the incident, the special teams formed by the North District Police arrested five persons including real estate businessman.
Meanwhile, the residents claimed that Methar had exposed the builder’s ‘good image’ by exposing the latter’s illegalities.
“The first person to stand up to the builder for these illegal activities is Methar. Recently, a new committee of our society has been formed and as a member of that committee some of the pioneering steps of Methar have crushed the builder and unmasked the good man image of the builder in front of everyone. Only then the builder began to show his true appearance,” the letter further states adding that the builder would influence the residents not to sign on RERA’s complaint filed by the new committee.
Stating that they are terrified, they said, “We don’t know what else is going to happen in the future. This is why we kindly request you to provide protection to our society, because we have lost all trust in this builder. The builder will be fully responsible for any physical and mental damage to any of our residents in the future,” the letter added.
While the police are tightlipped on the investigation, sources said that co-host of an illegal rave party – currently on bail in the case -is being suspected for conspiracy in the present case. The investigation team is expected to interrogate him but as on Monday, no summons is issued.
The accused are serving eight days police custody.
