VASCO: Following directions from Collector South Goa to identify religious structures that can be removed or relocated in view of the ongoing road widening works in Mormugao, the Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Arundekar on Wednesday held a joint meeting with all stakeholders including PWD National Highway (NH) cell, police and others.
“As per Supreme Court order, we had identified religious structures and as per requirement of road expansion and widening it was decided to relocate religious structures coming within the road widening area. Today we sought details from the PWD as to how many religious structures that they have identified has been removed, how many can be removed and relocated and the structures that cannot be removed. PWD officials informed that certain religious structures were already identified and removed by them while undertaking the road expansion works while certain structures like one cross at Thana in Cortalim needs to be removed as the expansion of NH17 road is going on in full swing. We have asked the PWD to give the report after which we would hold another meeting on February 9, and would send a final report to the collector,” Arundekar said.
