Canacona: Seized with the issue of poor services offered at most of the nationalized banks in the taluka, Goa Forward Party (GFP) has given them a week’s time to improve their services or face an agitation.
In a statement issued Tuesday, GFP General Secretary and spokesperson Prashant Naik alleged that the services in most of the public sector banks have collapsed and that the public has to bear it for no fault of theirs.
There are more than 15 branches of public sector banks operating in various parts of the taluka and the services offered by most of them are not up to the standard, GFP pointed out.
Naik has alleged that the customer services in most of the bank branches in the municipal area and villages like Mashem, Poinguinim, Gaondongrim and Agonda have totally collapsed.
Though the authorities are blaming BSNL for THE poor internet connectivity, Naik said the banks have to rope in another internet service provider so that the customers are not inconvenienced. He lamented that the customers have to shuttle from village branches to taluka centre branches, where again they do not get the required services.
Naik added that he contacted Dilipkumar, a senior SBI officer based at their Panjim headquarters and requested him to take up this issue on priority. Failing which, Naik warned that the distressed customers will have to do picketing in front of the bank branches.
“It is common site to see senior citizens amongst others waiting for long hours in queue at the banks in the taluka; most branches have the passbook printing kiosk not working; there is no cash in the dispenser of ATMs; no internet connectivity; and ineffective and inefficient staff is the daily order in the banks of Canacona. We will agitate if these services don’t improve immediately,” Naik added.
