PANJIM: The Directorate of Education released the draft rules for commencing the new academic year for Classes VI to X and Class XII from April this year, with one week break between the end of year and the beginning of the new academic year for these classes.

As per the notification, the academic year for Class I to V and Class IX shall ordinarily commence from June and end in April.
“The academic year for Classes VI to X and Class XII shall ordinarily commence from April and shall end in March,” it stated.
“There shall be a break of one week between the end of the academic year and the beginning of the new academic year for these classes. The academic year may be suitably divided into terms by the Director of Education, by issuing an order on that behalf,” the notification stated.
“There shall be a summer vacation for all classes from May 1 for five weeks as may be specified by the Directorate of Education. There shall be a break of three weeks in October or November or both, for the Diwali Festival. The Director of Education may declare a break of not more than a week for the Ganesh Chaturthi Festival, provided that loss of actual working days on account of this break shall be made good by proportionately reducing the discretionary holidays. There shall be a Christmas vacation from December 24 to January 2,” the notification added.
Goa School Education Rules are to be amended to this effect. All objections and suggestions to the said draft Rules are to be forwarded to the Director of Education, Government of Goa, Porvorim, within the next five days so that they may be taken into consideration at the time of finalisation of the said draft Rules, states the notification dated March 12.
The draft Rules are to be taken into consideration by the government after the expiry of five days from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.
