Porvorim: Navelim MLA and AICC in charge of North Eastern States Luizinho Faleiro on Tuesday said the Manohar Parrikar led coalition government was making a mockery of democracy.
Addressing a press conference after Congress Boycotted the Governor’s address, Faleiro said Goa was re-writing the history of legislature and the Constitution .
“The government which is functioning today is making a mockery of legislature and mockery of democracy. We are people’s representatives and are supposed to raise their issues and aspirations before the government but the government is robbing us of that opportunity,” Faleiro said.
The Navelim MLA stated the democracy has three wings – Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary but today executive and legislature is not working and hence the democracy is also not functioning. “The Governor holds a very important position as he or she is custodian of the Constitution and has to be impartial, his or her job is only to protect the Constitution,” Faleiro said adding “but unfortunately she has acted like an agent of BJP by calling them to form government despite Congress being single largest party”.
The senior Congressman said there was nothing to boast about the Governor’s speech as everybody knew what it would be.
“It is much better instead of sitting in the temple of democracy we sit at Azad Maidan and have a mock Assembly, so that we can at least be able to articulate the problems of the people,” he said.
He further said the government in Goa today is illegal and immoral.
“The Governor has robbed and looted the mandate of people of Goa,” he said.
About the short Assembly session, he said, this has never happened in the history of Goa.
“Today there is economic meltdown in Goa. Employment is a big problem because industrial growth has gone down, agricultural growth has gone down and it is very difficult to provide employment. Further, this government has added to the unemployment as it has stopped mining. Supreme Court never said mining has to be stopped,” he said.
