Hundreds if not thousands of sports lovers, both young and the old, descend at the SAG sports complex almost every day – be it for jogging, training or simply to play.
But, there’s not a single toilet around the complex and the nearest sanitation facility available is either the Nehru stadium or the swimming pool complex.
In the absence of any sanitation facility around, it’s not uncommon to find people relieving themselves in the open around the complex.
While a toilet block on the sprawling ground did not find favour with the powers that be in the past, given the bitter past experience over the maintenance, sports lovers say the government should pay adequate attention to the toilet blocks at the canteen and swimming pool for the benefit of the people.
“The existing toilet blocks should be kept open for the public, especially those who use the sports ground for training or jogging. Additional manpower should be sanctioned for the upkeep and maintenance of the toilet blocks,” remarked a regular user of the jogging track.
Sources said that though the canteen has a provision for a toilet block, the same is not opened for the public in the early hours. There is also no manpower sanctioned for the proper maintenance of the block.
“When children come in droves to use the toilet, it is left dirty. Without manpower, it’s not possible to maintain the toilet,” sources said.
