MARGAO: Expressing their strong objections to the dumping of thermocol boxes and illegal land filling of the agricultural at wholesale fish market owned by South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA), the residents of Madel, Fatorda, on Monday demanded that the Margao Municipal Council and SGPDA initiate action at the earliest.
The residents brought to the notice of the reporters that huge quantities of thermocol boxes have been dumped close to the wholesale fish market with a cage and displaying board of the civic body.

Despite the ban, a large number of thermocol boxes are noticed at the market. It is shocking to note that the cage used to dump the boxes has the board in the name of Margao Municipal Council which clearly proves that the civic body is involved in the illegal activities, claimed Milagres Fernandes, a resident of Madel.
He said, “Illegal filling of agricultural land is being carried out in the vicinity of the wholesale fish market.
Those engaged in the work of land filling have clearly cited that they have been asked by the SGPDA to do so. How can agricultural land be filled with mud without the knowledge of the locals and the farmers?”
Caitan Fernandes, another resident claimed that the illegal filling of agricultural land will surely cause flooding during monsoon.
The illegal activity of dumping mud in the fields will create a problem for the agricultural activities.
Taking serious note of the illegal activities, the residents have demanded that the MMC initiate action against those involved in dumping of thermocol boxes, besides demanding that the authorities concerned act against the illegal dumping of mud into the agricultural land.
