PANJIM: The State government has directed that the School for Appropriate Learning, managed by the Peoples Educational Trust for special children be shifted from the first floor back to the ground floor of the building.
The Education Department, in its affidavit filed before the High Court of Bombay at Goa on Thursday stated that it has in-principle agreed to the report filed by the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities that students with special care should not be subjected to any inconvenience and have easy access to the classrooms.
The commission’s report was in response to a petition filed by a section of parents seeking directions from the court to direct the school to strictly implement the order passed by the commissioner of disabilities earlier this year.
Advocate Sahish Mhambre stated that the court observed the school was already in contempt of its order pronounced on May 5. “The commission’s order was passed after hearing both the parties – parents and the school management. The report was thereafter submitted to the Education Department, that subsequently issued directions to the school to implement with immediate effect,” Mhambre said.
The school management has now sought time to reply to the current development, following which the court adjourned the matter for further hearing on July 20. Adv Mhambre along with senior counsel Subodh Kantak appeared for the petitioners.
