MAYEM: Heavy downpour disrupted normal life in Bicholim as incidents of uprooting of trees and water logging were reported in the taluka.
According to sources in Bicholim fire brigade, a tree came crashing down on the main road at Bhatwadi-Nanora, disrupting traffic for a few hours. Incidents of trees uprooting were also reported at Mayem, Pilgao, Narvem, Karapur, Assonora and several other areas. However, no casualty or loss of property was reported.
WRD junior engineer K P Naik informed that the total rainfall recorded in Bicholim taluka till Sunday was 108 inches, while in Anjunem dam area Kerim-Sattari, it was 100 inches.
“The rainfall recorded on Sunday was 1.5 inches. The height of the water level in Valwanti River Sanquelim and Bicholim River was 2 and 2.6 metres respectively,” informed Naik.
Deputy Collector Narayan Gad along with other officials of Disaster Management Cell Bicholim will visit Anjunem dam area in Keri-Sattari on Tuesday as the water level in the dam is likely to touch 93.2 metres in few days.
