Red Cross to felicitate Goa Police personnel

PANJIM: In a first, deserving personnel and officers of Goa Police will be awarded for their best performance by the Indian Red Cross Society, Goa (IRCS), an initiative to recognize the work of the personnel in uniform on Wednesday, January 30.
The entertainment-cum-award ceremony titled ‘Swabhiman 2019’ has decided to reward three each – constables, head constables, assistant sub inspectors and police sub inspectors; four police inspectors, three deputy superintendents of police and one superintendent of police. A special award ‘Police Mitra’ has also been declared.
Addressing a joint press conference with event partners Raj Group and Rajeshri Creations, IRCS Chairman Gaurish Dhond said the award ceremony would henceforth be an annual affair.
Informing about the criteria for Swabhiman nominations, he said the names were finalized from the shortlisted names forwarded to the committee by the Goa Police. “We were looking at those who have completed minimum 18 years of service with no major penalty and having good ACR for last 10 years. In the case of PSIs, we relaxed the years of service to 15 years based on the recruitment while the other criteria remained the same,” he said. The event on Wednesday would be graced by Goa Governor Mridula Sinha at Kala Academy.
While the Goa Police awardees have been finalized, the department has still not submitted the shortlisted names of Home Guards despite the committee showing keen interest to reward them as well.  “We are hopeful that the names would be forwarded to us soon as we still have some time left for the event. However, from next year the Home Guards will also be awarded if it does not happen this year,” said another member of the organizing team.
