The Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) has sought to know from the BJP the deadline to complete the projects highlighted in its manifesto for the ensuing Panjim by-election. The regional outfit has once again hit out at the BJP over the problem-ridden Smart City project claiming the manifesto has no mention of works to be undertaken as a part of Smart City project. “There is no talk about Smart City in the manifesto of the BJP. There is also no clarity about whether the works mentioned in the manifesto will be taken under Smart City, AMRUT, GSIDC, or any other project,” GSM’s Swati Kerkar said at a press conference on Sunday. Terming BJP’s manifesto ‘project oriented,’ the party has demanded that BJP set a deadline for each of the mentioned projects before the by-poll for Panjim scheduled on May 19.
Reacting to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s claim that Smart City projects will take five years to complete, the GSM leaders stated that the coalition government has barely two and half years left to complete all the works as the project began in 2016.
“The Smart City projects began in 2016. We understand that it was close to the next election, so let us count the tenure from 2017. If the Smart City planning is of five years, then the government has barely two and half years left to complete the works,” said another.
Kerkar claimed that GSM’s people oriented mission is being appreciated by the people in Panjim.
