CURCHOREM: Ore transportation started from Muscavrem mine in Rivona amid police protection on Wednesday morning, after two days protest by the locals.
According to Rivona Sarpanch Sarvesh Velip, the trucks hired by the contractor started the transportation without participation of local truck owners after protest from the locals to enhance the transportation rate as per the government rate.
Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral in the presence of Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai, Quepem Deputy Collector Shankar Gaonkar and Sanguem Mamlatdar Rajesh Sakhalkar explained to the people how the rate has been fixed for the transportation.
Speaking to Herald, Sarpanch Velip said Cabral assured the locals that the government will issue notification within a month fixing the transportation rate, but the locals are not happy with the assurance and decided not to participate in the transportation till the contractor agrees with the demands of the locals to give the rate as fixed by the government.
“Cabral also assured the locals that the government will issue the notification fixing the rate within a month,” informed Velip.
Velip also informed that loaded trucks ply even during the forbidden time for transportation to allow children to go and come from school. “Panchayat meeting has been called on Thursday to decide future course of action,” added Velip.
Rivona Truck Owners Association President Ashish Naik said the government has not considered their demands and the locals are not satisfied with the assurance given by the MLA, as many assurances given earlier are not fulfilled.
Quepem DySP R Goltekar and Quepem PI Pravin Gauns along with police force were present at the site to maintain law and order.
