The Internationally accepted World Teacher’s Day is October 5, whereas in our country India, it is September 5. It is celebrated to honour the memory of India’s first Vice President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and to acknowledge the significance of a teacher in our lives.
Students give up and surrender themselves in their struggle, and say “I can’t, I don’t understand, I am scared, I don’t have confidence to face the crowd” and then they hear a gentle motivating sound. They are the ones who can see the future authors, doctors, artists, musicians, engineers, doctors, teachers, athletes, etc. Teachers are willing to adapt themselves in any circumstances.
The lockdown forced with COVID-19 prompted the schools and called to move to virtual world for teaching-learning process. Those who had decades of experience, teaching virtually has turned out to be a new ball in a game. All the teachers, young or old, no one stepped back in learning and exploring the different virtual platforms to update themselves. Teachers who were on the verge of retirement took it as a challenge and left no stone unturned to adapt to the virtual mode of education.
Areas where there is low or no Internet access, teachers have turned the walls of mud into blackboard, taking classes through loudspeakers, on moving carts, converting the trucks into a mobile classroom travelling for hours to sit with students in person, assembling at the village panchayats to explain the lessons, etc.
Although 2020 was a year of struggle teachers ensured that, learning was not disrupted as school remained closed. Teachers have proved that, their role is vital for all round personality development and character formation, not just limited to classroom walls, however, going out of way in this hardship to empower the learner. They motivate, inspire, engage and unlock the potential of a child in character formation.
September 5 is the day teachers too feel special with the affectionate gestures and the immense respect they receive from the students. Since the teachers have been under huge strain during the unprecedented times of COVID pandemic, students try their level best to bring joy to their teachers. Following the standard operating procedure, this occasion ceased the cheer like in person. However, the students don’t fail to impress their teachers wishing them virtually, making cards, sharing the views about teachers, dance and singing in performance, etc.
Teachers feel proud of their profession when the students outpour their love towards them. This gives teachers a positive reinforcement to work with determination.
“A good education can change anyone, and a good teacher can change everything. May this Teacher’s Day be of gratefulness, for their support and kindness, let us repay by praying for their wellness.”
Happy Teachers’ Day
