The objective of these workshops is to create awareness among the industry stakeholders about the measures undertaken by government under the ‘Make in India’ campaign and also to have the stakeholders’ perspective and suggestions on the efforts.
During the workshop, presentations were given by Mr Ravinder (IAS), Director, DIPP, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, GoI and Mr Arun Goyal, IAS, Principal Secretary (Industries, Trade & Commerce), Goa government. The participants were requested to share Industry’s perception of state-level efforts with respect to Ease of Doing Business along highlighting adverse regulation undermining ‘Make in India’ for discussion in their respective sector.
In March, CII has partnered with the Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) School of Public Policy, the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI) of National University of Singapore to cooperate in relation to ACI’s initiated project titled the “Masterplan on Ease of Doing Business in Indian States: Vision 2020”.
Against this backdrop Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Goa organised an interaction and onsite survey and with Industry stakeholders and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI), National University of Singapore (NUS) along with senior Goa government officials on Thursday. Professor Tan Kong Yam, co-director of ACI-LKYSPP-NUS gave presentations on research and findings of inaugural study pertaining to Ease of Doing Business Index on Attractiveness to Investors and Business Friendliness (EDB Index A&B) for India.
Parag Joshi, Chairman, CII Goa State Council told Herald, “The Central government through DIPP is strongly monitoring every state in India on the index of Ease Of Doing Business. Every year the best states will be awarded and the worst will be shamed. Hence, there will be motivation to perform. Ultimately, the entire population will benefit if present regulations are simplified or in some cases even eliminated if they have become redundant with time and need. It will also help attract investors in a big way.”
Based on the outcome of the study, Government of Goa may sign a tripartite MoU with CII Goa and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), National University of Singapore (NUS), to conduct joint research and capacity building on the issues related towards “Masterplan on Ease of Doing Business in Goa”. Four states in India like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra have already taken lead on this. It will also enable strategic regional economic development potential for Goa and promote state to the international community through ACI’s global touch points in ASEAN, China, Europe and Japan.
