Herald: What special is the GTDC offering to its tourists this season?
Nilesh Cabral: We are making every effort to create more amenities for family tourists and ensure their long stay in Goa. GTDC has been working on this plan in the recent years. On an average, majority of tourists stay in Goa for one or two days. We want them to spend more days experiencing and exploring all the facets of tourism. Herald: Why has the long announced proposal to develop world class infrastructure to attract high-end tourists come to a screeching halt?
Cabral: We have been upgrading facilities to boost high-end tourism in the State but a number of projects are stranded owing to sustained opposition from certain sections of the society. The State should consider granting permission to go-ahead with these projects taking into confidence all the stakeholders.
Herald: Why has work on certain other projects slowed down?
Cabral: There is no money! The construction of Santa Monica terminal on the recently renovated jetty, development of hinterland tourism and setting up cloakrooms comprising of toilets, shower rooms, etc at the beaches; now needs financial assistance from the Centre.
