PANJIM: As many as 203 candidates are in fray for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections, scheduled on March 22. Total 829,876 voters will exercise their franchise.
On Saturday, 32 candidates withdrew from the fray, leaving 203 in race. BJP candidate Anita Thorat has been elected unopposed from Sancoale constituency in South Goa.

Hundred and four (104) candidates would be battling out for 25 seats in North Goa, while for another 25 seats in South, there are 99 candidates.
The elections, which are being fought on party lines, saw BJP fielding its candidate in 41 constituencies, Congress in 38, Aam Aadmi Party in 21, MGP in 17 and Nationalist Congress party in six.
There are 79 independent candidates also in fray. A candidature has been also filed by Rashtriya Samaj Party.
As many as 30 seats are reserved under various categories like women (16 seats), Schedule Caste (1 seat), Schedule Tribe (6 seats) and Other Backward Class (14 seats).
The counting will take place on March 23.
