BICHOLIM: With the anti incumbency wave brushing off sitting MLAs of the Bicholim taluka last year, it was expected that the new incumbents would settle down and reduce the public dissatisfaction. However ground reports suggest that the three MLA Bicholim, Mayem and Sanquelim need to quickly get their act together since the first year of “settling down” is over.
Some locals say that their prominence in social media, which is fine, should also be matched with work on the ground
“We have just heard that there are several projects which are planned including a swimming pool, mini hall, road widening, bus stand, special building for all the government offices, but till date nothing is seen. There are at least some projects coming up in Sanquelim but Bicholim is still silent in terms of development” UrjitaBandekar told.
The people from Bicholim state that Sanquelim has developed rapidly with most of the projects including Ravindra Bhavan, Swimming pool, indoor stadium, bus stand and other such facilities coming up in the city.
“We are just dreaming about having a sports complex, a new bus stand and better conditions of our roads. But seems like all the aspiring MLA’s are waiting to tackle the issues just before next elections” Rukshar from Bicholim expressed her resentment on social media adding “Bicholim and sanquelim started from the same point but Bicholim is nowhere close to sanquelim with regards to development”
The road near shantadurga higher secondary (where our honorable MLA resides) is worse than a kaccha road, then where is the progress” questions VithalVernekar. Walter Pereira feels that the Bicholim –Assonora road should be widened for proper vehicular traffic.
Another problem that Bicholim would face is the unemployment after the stopping of mining. There are some who have almost lost hope of Bicholim and Mayem ever seeing development like Pranay Gaonkar.
Who says “whoever comes to power in Bicholim and Mayem, will never do development.”
Except renovation of Mayem lake, which is going on since last two years, nothing much has happened in this constituency. ” In Mayem there has been no development since last more than a year. Mayem is still backward and all the promises given by the CM and the government to the people of Mayem have been forgotten. They are not even able to inaugurate the Mayem Lake since last one year when about 80% of the work was completed some year ago.” charged Santosh Sawant a congress leader who had contested last assembly elections.
