MARGAO: The Chinchinim gram sabha resolved to oppose the recent action of the Power Department to issue notices to consumers asking them to apply for regularisation of the increase in load or face temporary disconnection.
At the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Valentino Barretto, concerns were raised as to how the affected residents are receiving notices despite having paid their bills on time and moreover are being forced to not only shell out high sums of money for the test report on top of their bills but also have to pay a security deposit.
On other matters, it was resolved to ask the authorities to conduct a safety audit of the Portuguese-era Assolna bridge.
Barretto pointed out that there are no checks being done to see how much tonnage crossed the bridge in view of the amount of heavy traffic that use the bridge, which is an important link for the Assolna-Velim-Cuncolim (AVC) region. It was also suggested to ask the government to construct a parallel bridge if required.
The gram sabha also resolved to ask the government to nominate the name of the ‘paddy man of Goa’ Fr George Quadros for the Padma Bhushan award for his herculean efforts in making the State greener.
Other decisions involved installing CCTV cameras with panchayat funds on the Deussua bypass road to deter those persons who are dumping garbage on the road and to also speak to the authorities concerned about enforcing stricter speed limits on internal roads of the village.
