PANJIM: It has been at least seven days since the Overseas Job scam was exposed. Two Goans were deported from the USA via Amritsar. However till date the accused job agent has not been arrested, since he says he is out of the state. Herald Media asked people, Is the police allowing the overseas job scam accused agent to go scot free even when with the help of technology he can easily be traced?

These agents who are operating in Goa completely fool our youth. It is not the fault of the youth. Many of the youth have family problems. They have to look after their parents, wife and children, brothers and sisters and some have to build a house. Many of them have big families as is generally the case in Goa. So thinking of this they go to different countries including the USA. So it is at this time that the agents cheat them. There has been no inquiry on these agents. Many youth are waiting to file complaints against these agents. I’m appealing to the government that these agents who take about Rs 15 lakh from them, and put them in trouble, the Goa Government has to act against them. And all illegal agents should be jailed.

We understand that some of our youth are in desperate need of jobs, but they should not fall from the frying pan into the fire. If you want to go abroad, verify everything and go. Goa only through those agents who are legally registered and those who do the process legally. Verify the agent’s licence and documents. At the same time government too has to crack down on illegal agents many of whom are operating in Goa. From time to time government should check their licences. Do they have agents abroad? It is very important that government verify these from the agents. Then only things will be streamlined otherwise our youth will keep on getting cheated.

We understand that earlier too there have been many cases, where agents have cheated people with the promise of overseas jobs. If the present government has the will, it will not take them time to streamline this. But the government priorities are different. Here they are after the activists, they are busy with selling properties or they are interested in banning dogs. We do not understand their priorities. They have to pay urgent attention to such cases where Goans are being cheated. The number of such agencies which cheat the youth have gone up considerably. One things can be proved from these scams is that employment is a big factor. Because people are unemployed they fall prey to such job scams.
